Water leaks in your home can appear anywhere there is a plumbing fixture, and finding them is the first step to fixing them.

Water leaks in your home can appear anywhere there is a plumbing fixture, and finding them is the first step to fixing them. Fortunately, North Arundel Contracting utilizes imaging technology to identify moisture inside a property’s walls and imaging cameras to locate water sources that began water leaks. So, follow these tips to find the water leaks that could damage your home and waste money.

Around Your Toilet

Attempt to rock the toilet gently to search for flange leaks. If your toilet moves, seek ceiling stains beneath the bathroom. Secondly, remove the toilet and look for a loose or cracked flange. Over time, a leak may trigger the subfloor around the toilet to rot, eventually causing the ceiling under the toilet to collapse. Additionally, a leak between the toilet tank and bowl can mean a consistently running toilet. Therefore, the flapper is likely improperly sitting on the hole or cracked.

Another way to look for water leaks in your home is to trickle water around the sink rim. The sink rim leaks slowly, damaging cabinets and countertops. Also, look for plumbing leaks by turning on the faucet, looking for wet spots, and using a tissue to wipe under the sink’s plumbing connections. Water leaks can destroy the flooring, cabinets, and ceiling of the room below. After discovering the water leaks, try to repair them.

The Shower and Bathtub Area

When it comes to your shower or bathtub area in your home, inspect for these specific water leaks:

  • Regarding splash leaks, make sure to close the shower door and splash water at it from the inside. If you see water leaking out, it can enter under the tile floor and cause damage.
  • To search for drain leaks, plug the drain with a test plug, fill the shower or tub a couple of inches, and inspect the water level after an hour. If the water level drops, the seal surrounding the drain leaks.
  • For tile leaks, examine the grout and press on all the shower tiles or tub walls. Loose tiles, persistent mold, and deteriorating grout indicate water damages the wall behind the tiles.
