This article provides tips on locating a difficult leak in your home.

Water leaks can damage your home and belongings substantially if they are not repaired promptly. Water stains on your floors, ceilings, or walls are typically the first signs that you have a water leak. But what if you can’t see any obvious leaks? This article provides tips on locating a difficult leak in your home.

Investigate the Leak from The Main Source

If you discover water or signs of a water leak in your home, you must try to trace it back to the source. Since water tends to leave a trail, you might poke around in your attic or lift a ceiling tile to see if you can spot signs of where the water came from.

Inspect Your Attic & Roof

Inspect the attic of your home and the shingles of your roof for signs of water leaks or damage. Also, check your gutters, as a loose or clogged gutter can allow water to back up into the soffits or eaves of your home, where it can migrate elsewhere.

Unfortunately, not all water leaks are apparent. Some can be hidden ones. They may start and stop randomly, especially if the leak is due to a roofing problem. As a result, water can travel within your attic or subfloor.

Prevalent Signs of a Water Leak

There are several things to seek if you suspect a water leak has formed somewhere in your house.

Higher Water Bills

A high water bill is typically an obvious sign of a water leak. It may be a leaking pipe hiding your home’s primary wet wall, or it could be a basement plumbing fixture dribbling away at your money. Sometimes, it could be the fixture connecting your hose to the house that froze in the wintertime.

Hearing Dripping Sounds

A sign of a water leak could also be if you hear noticeable dripping noises or the rushing sound of moving water around your house. This may be a slow or fast dripping sound.

Inspect All Plumbing Fixtures

Another indicator of a water leak in your home is a wet spot around a bathtub or a persistent slow drip from a faucet. Take a moment to turn both faucets on full and look closely around the base. Search for any water dripping through the pipes leading from the sink or the sink.

Sometimes, a leaky fixture or faucet can allow water to drip down the water line into the subceiling or subfloor. Faucets are always a prime location for a water leak because they are frequently used.
